It seems as though we are going backwards. We were doing so well in realising that all human beings are worthy individuals with emotional and intellectual depth, yet now so many of us don’t seem to see any problem with society encouraging many to reduce themselves to sexual objects. How is this rationalised?

THATS the issue man, you have a negative connotation toward sexuality. You’re operating under the assumption that being open with / expressing your sexuality is inherently negative, which is obviously ridiculous.
Openness towards sexuality will always bring about better results than making it out to be taboo, hell, sex is the most natural part of life.
