Due to a quirk of how federation works, you cannot discover communities or magazines through search or on “all”, until at least one other user on your instance has manually triggered federation to be “initialized” by searching for that exact community/magazine.
I though it would be good to keep a list to help us all find the places wed like to participate in. So far, I’ve found, and created some of what is listed below. If you know about or start a new community/magazine, comment! I’ll update the list.
Mods of anime communities/magazines, consider copying parts of, or the whole list, into your sidebars.
If a link does not work, copy link text into search, and add the @ before the community name. On Kbin you wont see any old posts as the community will not have federated until the first person subscribes. After that, everything federates.

Thanks for sharing, this is very insightful. It’s a shame the lemmy.ml instance is the most populated, I’m wary of that place. And maybe I’m doing something wrong, but it looks like animoe.xyz is empty, except for a single test post.
It is. It’s brand new. And only just enabled federation.
Also you are on kbin, as I explain in the post, kbin only federates new posts from other instances. When a community or instance is added, Kbin does not import older content, only new content from that moment going forward.
