As native Moscovite, I can confirm that I’ve already scalped 3 Wagnerites and one very confused German composer.

Not terribly credible. The reddit thread I first saw it on had a translated MoD announcement that only said Wagner were treasonous (but not shoot on sight) and some people arguing that the Russian version looked fake.

Definitely grain of salt for now.

Weird. Seems videos from other domains don’t work, even other fediverse domains. Anyway, switched it to a gif link so it works.

I’m making a Lemmy app, and I’m pretty good at convincing media to work even when it’s reluctant (and as I’m making the app I want to use, everything should eventually be able to auto play)

Could you break down the specifics for me? Preferably with links and any other details/thoughts you have on hand

So, I was looking at it in Firefox. Whenever I linked to a video that was on a different domain than the one I was viewing the post from, the video wouldn’t load. So if I linked to a video hosted by Lemmy.world it would load when viewing the post from lemmy.world but not lemmy.ml. If I linked to a video hosted by Tenor Gifs, it wouldn’t load on any of them.

As a Russian, currently living in Moscow, can say this is bullshit. MD force other military volunteers squads to sign contract. Only Wagner Group declined.

    Fuck war.

How strong is Wagner compared to Russian military? Are we talking ~1/10 of the strength, 1/100, 1/1000?

wagner had 50k in dec 2022 and it was probably peak, before february 2022 ru army had 300k active duty, so i’d say it’s somewhere between 1/10 and 1/100. closer to 1/100

The main problem is that if they really started fighting, Wagner is wholly reliant on the Russian army to support them with ammunition. Wagner has no logistics and would quickly crumble from it.

oh yeah this counts manpower only, and maybe small arms and some light equipment are in similar proportions. wagner has, for its size, little heavy equipment, virtually no engineering equipment, and shoiguu where is my ammunition

Would it be good for Ukraine if they supported wagner, even just a little bit, if they decide to turn against Putin? Maybe just enough to keep them a threat, but not enough to give them a chance of achieving anything significant.

Wow thats a lot more than I expected. I thought they are just a loud bunch of mercenaries. They can actually do some decent damage if they decide to turn on putin.

The only tactic these guys know is escalation in the hope that someone backs down. Prigozhin as a gangster knows the value of intimidation and not backing down, but Shoigu is just hoping his credentials do the scaring for him because he has no fucking street cred, he’s just some Ural paperpusher. I think he’s terrified of prigozhin

No wonder Russia has been human waving Wagner, trying to thin the ranks (No clue if this is credible, but if it isn’t, it just fits here better)

like a true nazi state, russia wants to get rid of undesirables: criminals and the extremely gullibile (through wagner), minorities, the clueless an debtors (mobiks). you’ll find out that mobilization orders weren’t taken very seriously in moscow, but were in bashkiria and tuva (at least at the beginning). far east has few jobs available, in one far eastern region like half of population is in inescapable debt. army gives stable if shitty job. you can dodge draft if you know who to pay but if you don’t have money, this doesn’t work

Look at the post’s date, when the active rebellion happened, and the fact that there is nothing going on now. This was likely a hoax.
