I’m not sure but I feel like this will need to be important as a lot of people use reddit as a search term to find information on google

The standard search seems to work. Magnifying glass icon, top of screen. Under the heart and create post.

Not sure how much of the federation is searched though. Local instance only? Stuff local instance knows about?

Wonder if Google grabs any of lemmy?

    • It should theoretically search your home server’s known communities list … and it’s rather a filter than a search box, because the results change as i type, and when i press enter, they disappear. That’s a little sketchy there. Looks as if it constantly makes queries to the server while i type, therefore it may happen ATM, that there are no results because the server is unresponsive.

Anyway, the way the federation currently works, is that community creations are not broadcast to all instances, and therefore your server may not yet be aware of some community somewhere else. In such a case, it’s recommended to use another tool, like the Lemmy Community Browser: https://browse.feddit.de/
      Let’s hope that doesn’t get overloaded…
