That’s the reason why average wealth doesn’t reflect the general living experience of the public.

Without London the UK would be ranking much lower on the average wealth scale.

    What else is new?

It is easier for more well off individuals to access benefits than those who truly require it.

Systems are often hard to navigate, terribly bureaucratic and staffed with uninterested and often malicious and callous individuals.

Paired with policies veering towards cutting off social benefits and taxation fairness, those who are already vulnerable get even more vulnerable.

We are as strong as the weakest among us.

And this is not a call to abandon the weak. Is the reminder that the stronger must care for and build up the weaker.

This is what I don’t really get about a lot of the capitalists and neo-liberals, most of these measures to significantly increase the quality of life of the poor and education and health are not that expensive but would result in a much stronger and more productive overall society. That is something that even people who don’t care about the moral aspect should want.

But stronger society equals less Power for the rich. Why would they do that?

Ofc, If everything is fucked (climate i.e.), they could Just lift Off to Alpha centauri… Or can they…

Well here in Germany conservatives and the liberal party are whining and spewing hate over a new social aid aimed to lift poor children out of poverty.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The United Kingdom ranked almost last in the list of wealthy countries fighting child poverty, coming in just above Columbia and Turkey.

The Child Poverty in the Midst of Wealth report card showed shocking results, with some of the richest world’s countries such as the UK, Spain, and Luxembourg falling to the bottom of the charts.

On the other hand, poorer countries such as Poland and Slovenia are faring best in efforts to tackle child poverty, followed by Latvia and the Republic of Korea.

It found that, despite overall decreases in poverty by nearly 8% across 40 countries between 2014 and 2021, there were still more than 69 million children living in households earning less than 60% of the average national income by the end of 2021.

The report also shows that countries with similar levels of national income, such as Slovenia and Spain, have stark differences in their child poverty rates - 10% and 28% respectively.

Meanwhile, five higher-income countries – the United Kingdom (+20%) and France, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland (all around +10%) – saw the greatest increases in the number of children living in households experiencing financial hardship since 2014.
