Let’s start this community by remembering our favourite GMs in chess history. It doesn’t have to be the best but our personal favourite. And you don’t have to mention just one. Feel free to add a comment on why you find them Great!

I feel like it’s a bit too popular of an opinion but the honest answers would be Hikaru and Magnus.

I was really impressed by Hikaru’s performance in the Candidates. I love that he shut the mouths of all those who dismissed him as “just a youtuber” and he was so close to the second place which led to the WCC. For Magnus, there isn’t much to say. GOAT

Do you think magnus has lost interest in playing any classical?

It seems that he wants to go as high as possible in terms of ELO. Perhaps he will choose the timing of his battles when he feels strong. Although this can backfire as he could get more rusty as he gets older. What are your thoughts?

Interesting choice! Great GM but we don’t hear his name often in discussions like this. How come? What was the tournament or game that made him your favourite?

It’s not any particular game, per se. I just like his presence/demeanor at tournaments. He’s always seems happy and content, and never gets into any drama. He’s the least talked about 2800+ (in the past) player in that club, so is kind of an underdog (odd calling someone who got to 2800 an underdog). His story is also compelling to me.

    I will start with three:

    1. Mikhail Tal: No surprises here. Who doesn’t like the Magician?
    2. Anatoly Karpov: the top GM of my childhood until Kasparov took over the whole world
    3. Vishy Anand: the real gentleman of the chess world. Fantastic in every aspect of the game
