Well you see normally an entire season is written and animated together, they don’t just take a break before the finale.
Might be due to the strikes?
This is how sitcoms often do it, because of all the conflicting things going on between November and December - there’s a lot of sports, there’s Thanksgiving, and it’s generally a bad time for TV. Often what they will do is have a Halloween episode and then take a break until December and air the holiday special.
Modern Family consistently did this, they had their mid-season finale in October, take a break until December, and then sometimes even take another break until February before wrapping up.
Feels like it’s been over since Adam Reed stopped being the driving force behind the show. He was the primary writer up through Archer: 1999 (the space coma season) but then after that it’s a bunch of staff writers keeping the show afloat.
I didn’t realize how long Reed had been contributing before he gave it up, I thought he had called it quits by the coma seasons starting, but he was an integral part of the writing of all of those seasons.
I kinda tuned out when the coma seasons started. I found that after Archer Vice, with the focus on more serialized storytelling, somehow fell flat for me. The series then continued to be heavily serialized with season-long arcs and I find that started to weaken the show.
Archer vice was great but to me it was lost it’s mojo after that. Haven’t caught the recent few though.
