This one started promising, but has not progressed all that much since the original release, at least feature wise.
Probably needs someone outside of the main group of NC developers to pick it up and develop further.

I tried this out like 12-18 months ago before deciding to just run my own Mastodon instance. I recall, like poVoq mentioned, having to play with my nginx config a bit to get webfinger junk behaving as expected.
But even after I got to working it was pretty bare-bones and I’m not sure it’s gotten any better since then.
Look into your .well-known and webfinger configuration of Nextcloud I would guess.
Yeah, I was a bit disappointed too, but I think the idea itself is really exciting.
Nextcloud has this really lazy business model. Essentially they launch a skeleton of a feature and then hope the community will do the development for them. There’s so many unmaintained features that it’s makes the service quite unreliable beyond file sharing.
Actually the opposite often happens (as I think was the case here). Someone from the community develops a prototype app -> people get excited -> Nextcloud GmbH decides to promote it to an official app (but without actually paying someone to work on it) -> community member abandons app.
Right, fair point yours is more accurate.
