I joined them with Saints Row 3 back in the day and enjoyed 4/GOH.

I even played AND platinumed Agents of Mayhem (Depression can make you do weird things man)

But my favorite game from them will always be Red Faction Guerilla. To this day the destruction in that game still hasnt been rivaled in the AAA console market (if it has please point me in the right direction).

The gameplay was simple but the destruction added so much fun to it. Even the multiplayer had some crazy moments only possible due to those physics. I even got to the Ostrich Hammer playing in the og xbox 360 lobbies.

RIP Volition, I wish every employee the best

I really liked some of the Volition stuff over the years, Freespace, Red Faction, Saints Row, they were never “top tier” but they made some great stuff.

      Shame to see them go.

Sucks for the employees - that last abomination that the studio released was 1000% responsible for this IMO. SR3 and SR4 were hilarious, fun times… the reboot though… uggg…

Still can’t listen to Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing without thinking of the opening mission of SR4.

The reboot had potential. The LARPing missions were funny and some of the voicelines great. The gameplay was buggy and boring sadly.

Saints Row 2022 was 100% reason why this happened.

And it’s not even Embracer that did this…Volition had no oversight and dug their own grave

Every SR game was different from the last. The problem is that they went too long between installments and the latest installment wasn’t fun. Two bad games in a row will put even the best studios on the chopping block regardless of past performance.

Yeah, the last few games had writing that felt like it belonged in a 2012-era game. It felt dated and was getting beyond cringey, and put me off from playing some of the later Saint’s Row titles at all.
