Aside from stores that literally don’t exist, I miss the old versions of sites that suck now
Google when it was a text box and a search button, with no sponsored results or AI
Sites like Newgrounds being filled with awesome flash content and communities
The internet in general being a bunch of organic communities instead of a corporate driven hellhole
Newgrounds is still surprisingly fertile soil. It’s a different crowd, but they’re definitely doing weird new shit still
Flash game websites
I miss the original falling sand game with the Namekuji: https://web.archive.org/web/20100102083600/http://fallingsandgame.com/sand/index.html
Looks like some of them are preserved here: https://androdome.com/Sand/
NotDoppler was my fav. technically the site still exists but the games don’t work anymore. when I was in sixth form we had a commons room with computers and every lunch break I’d play the games on that site because it was the only flash games site that the school didn’t block lol
Flashpoint Archive has over 200k old Flash games and animations archived in a working condition
Same. I miss flash games too haha. Pogo.com was my favorite and again while it still exists it is just a shitty shell of its former self.
I miss when StumbleUpon was good. I tried to go back to their new whatever-thing, and it just sucked. The internet changed too profoundly for it to survive, and its latter day mutations have not improved its viability.

Lemmy is great and all, but the old web was just a treasure, and now anything that doesn’t smell bad like Facebook seems like gold by comparison and seems “good enough.”

On the other hand, Zombocom will always be there for you. It will always welcome you.
So many fond Amazing Frog memories with my little ones.
DDRFreak forums! They taught me what furries are when I was like 12. I never had a word for it before that.
Team Forsvarsmakten, where they had a 4-player co-op game based on teamwork.
