I really have no idea why I was banned from those two communities specifically. I don’t think I’ve interacted with any of them (apart from reading/voting) for weeks. It’s not an instance ban.
If there is a better place to post this, please tell me.
EDIT:
I posted a link that was falsely flagged as malicious, have been unbanned! See comments for more details!
The reason is “automod.” If those communities set up an automod but misconfigured it, the bot might be overzealously banning people retroactively.
Most instances/communities that set up an automod usually just have it notify them of problematic posts, and a human checks to be sure. If it’s been a minute since you’ve posted there, it might be worth reaching out to the mods to see what happened and why.
Yeah, I already messaged a mod from each community, thanks!
Apperently this comment about HDD market shares trigged my ban. I still don’t know why, but it’s progress!
Why do people care about getting banned from communities they don’t interact with?
Yeah, I don’t contribute, but I do read them daily. And being banned actually removes them from your sidebar of “subscribed” communities. That’s how I noticed.
I wouldn’t care if I deserved it. But I really didn’t do anything.
It allows them to grandstand about internet moderators like it’s some kind of injustice unique to them, and no one else in the history of the world has ever had their rights violated like this.
I’d care if .world and .ml banned me, as I have most of my feed from there. I don’t really care if
johnny.lemmy.us
banned me.
Are you banned from sh.itjust.works fully? And those are the only two communities you have interacted?
No, it’s not an instance ban, there are still sh.itjust.works communities I’m subscribed to and not banned from.
They might be the two communites I’ve interacted with most (but it’s mostly voting, it’s been weeks since I’ve left a comment on either one).
yes it is an instance ban: https://sh.itjust.works/u/remon@ani.socia https://sh.itjust.works/modlog?page=1&actionType=All&userId=14537229
nobody from SJW will see this post, as you’re currently banned from their instance. mentions of their admins in this thread won’t work, nor will any of your pms make it over there.
you were also banned by our LW automod for a minute until i reversed it: https://lemmy.world/modlog?page=1&userId=10371316
I’ve shared this thread directly with SJW admins on other channels for a review.
Oh wow. Any idea why?
Hi,
You were indeed site banned from SJW about 7 hours ago, which has now been reverted.
Sorry about that.
We manually review the stuff the automod does, but sometimes it can take a bit until we get to it.And yes that domain was used by SEO spam bots. I’ll tweak it to be less harsh for this particular one.
Peace ✌️
PS: Lemmy currently issues community bans whenever a site ban happens, which is somewhat confusing and is often subject of discussion here because people think they were community banned.
No worries, glad it got all cleared up!
the domain on the link you shared was previously used by spam bots
I see … well, that was totally random then. It was just the first kind of useful article I could find regarding that topic and I didn’t think anything else off it.
Thanks for your help!
Interesting, do they share mods?
Since !greentext@sh.itjust.works just has one, that was easy to check. They do not!
🤔
@nuke@sh.itjust.works do you mind checking?
I already dm’d them.
I’ve been banned from a handful of subs that I never went on or interacted with in any way.
Somehow the Lemmy mod abuse is actually just as bad as reddit. Only slightly better because at least I can see what communities I’m banned from relatively easily.
It does say “automod” so I think it might just be a mistake. But I contacted a couple of mods, maybe somebody can fix it (or explain it). I’ll update the post if that happens.
