I wonder how hard it would be for them to make their own f35. Or does it make more sense to skip it entirely and go for this 6th Gen fighter that Japan and UK are working on.
Germany ordered the F35 only, because they are certified to carry US nuclear bombs. As soon as Trump questions the nuclear participation, the order will hopefully be cancelled in favour of the future European FCAS system.

FCAS… Germany/France/Spain (Belgium as an observer since 2023, predicted to join this summer)… a cooperation that started in 2001 with UK later leaving to develop their own one, Japan only joined in 2022.

As Australia is quickly finding out with the nuclear subs you won’t be getting that money back.
