I got attacked on my way to my room. It was from a dude I used to talk to back when we were trying to find a homeless shelter together. I think he was on drugs and attacked me when he realized I wouldn’t give him money.
He got me in the shoulder and lower abdomen but thankfully my prosthetic is perfectly fine and the cops literally saw the entire thing unfold so realistically I should be dead but I was able to receive help quickly.
I haven’t started my new job yet so I currently don’t have an income. $45 is impossible for me to pay right now. Thank you to the Toronto Police.

Yeah just wait for your bill, you should be fine to delay it until your first paycheque. When you receive the bill, look for the due date and look for the number you can call for assistance. You may be able to negotiate a *deferral or a payment plan.
The worst case for not being able to pay this bill is better than taking out a payday loan to finance it.

You can try, and probably even win, but people that stab other people tend to not pay court judgements.
well, in the united states you can literally sue anyone for any reason. its the american way.
You can sue anyone in Canada as well. That doesn’t mean you will win, or that the judge won’t throw out your case before it starts.
If Ontario is anything like BC, you won’t have to worry for a while. When my dad needed an ambulance it was over a year before he finally got a $150 bill for the transport.
There are almost certainly social services available to handle cases when you absolutely can’t afford it. Personally I wouldn’t stress about this until/if you receive a demand for money and then make a decision based on where you’re at.
Re: our healthcare spending. Canada spends less on socialized healthcare than the US does, and they still have to pay insane amounts out of pocket on top of that. I think Canada is doing fine for healthcare, despite some obvious issues like crowding.
In Canada, if you’re told you have to wait 9 months for an MRI, you should probably be almost-happy. It means your problem isn’t that bad so doctors are ok letting you wait a bit. It’s when the hospital phones you at home at 11pm and says “umm can you please come in for an MRI RIGHT NOW?” that you should worry. Our triage works really well - I have numerous firsthand and secondhand experiences with it.
We have good healthcare. Buy it is triage just like anywhere. The sicker you are the faster you get into surgery. Etc. Some areas are under serviced, but in places like Ontario you have Ford purposely wrecking public health to get his buddy’s private companies work.
