Pokémon Sleep is the only one I’m currently playing. It’s valentines week, so I’m trying to figure out what team makes the best desserts.

My top dessert currently is the Lucario (Steadfast Ginger) cookies. My team is 2x Charizard for ginger, Ivysaur for Honey, Delibird for eggs, and a Mimikyu to keep the berries flowing. If i get high on one ingredient i swap in my Blastoise to restock my chocolate.

My teatime scones are very close in exp art a much lower level, so I need to start farming some corn for them.

I need to find Delibird eventually! Those are only at the snowy level, right? Currently I’m mostly making flower tarts. They look so tasty, I so rant some of the desserts irl.

Slowly grinding my way through a Yellow Legacy Professor Oaks Challenge, and once I’m through with it, going to do the same with the Crystal and Emerald Legacy versions.

At this point, there should be nothing left in Diglett Cave, except for the bodies. So much running back and forth, but Dugtrio is such good EXP right now.

  • I am a fan of romhacks of the first gens (specially crystal). Right now I’m playing Polished Crystal and I absolutely recommend it to anyone willing to revive the older gens but with a touch of modernity that upgrades the game without being too much of a change.

      Hack link for the interested

From what I have seen, a lot of ROM hacks have difficulty upgrades, and I’m honestly not interested in that. I like being able to win battles with random Pokémon I like instead of having to pick the competitively viable/strong ones to beat the game. I suppose it is the curse of this being a kids game and adults usually being the hackers.

and the difficulty has been increased for a more engaging experience

So this one is probably not for me.

Now that I think of it though, kids have more free time to learn and master a video game, while adults have less free time even if the adult might have a greater capacity to learn the game than a child (and past a certain age maybe not. I don’t expect a 4-year old to really get any strategies beyond type advantage, but a devoted 9-year-old could probably wreck some adults competitively. I’d bet there are some 9-year-olds doing well on Pokémon Showdown and nobody knows because they are typing with fluent English and not throwing a fit when they lose), so “adults overall want a harder game” might not be true. Especially given the prevalence of cozy games. So I do wonder why there are so many difficulty upgrade ROM hacks (not a bad thing by the way! Just because it is not to my personal taste does not mean I think this a bad thing), is it that adults who would make ROM hacks are the type to want hard games?

Honestly? Around 10 hours or so in, I don’t find it difficult. More challenging than the original games, sure. But nothing that requires you to use an elite team.

Heck, my team includes a misdreavous, a zubat, sandshrew and vulpix so far. I’ve had some issues with water types but nothing unsolvable. And yeah, I get those pokemon because they are among my favourites. Not because they are particularly strong. If any, thanks to some balancing, the game is actually easier to do with whatever pokemon you like. I’d say you are way more flexible to pick your mons than in the OG.

I am an adult playing this one on my commute (30 mins), so I don’t have the time or the will to do all those crazy hacks (like kaizo and the likes), I think this one is a bit more challenging but because all the qol changes balance it. Otherwise the game would be so easy it’d be boring.

Got back on Pokémon GO and Pokémon Masters at about the same time. Masters mostly because I used to treat it as a somewhat idle game for my phone and I wanted that back. I level up “improperly,” by sticking my characters on the Legendary Adventures battles having them autobattle for that sweet stamina-free 4,000 XP. (Ignore that huge pile of Level-Up Manuals in the corner.) There are definitely better idle games also accessible on mobile, even a Pokémon-themed one (although I’d recommend you play that on a PC), but I wanted to play what I wanted, and so I redownloaded.

PokéClicker, the idle game I just mentioned, has been on hiatus for a bit, as well as my run of HeartGold SoulSilver (also my first mainline game, whoops! I learned Pokémon by pop-cultural osmosis, then Pokémon GO and large doses of the Pokémon page on TVTropes.org, and finally by trying a mainline game… probably not the way you are “supposed” to do it, but ah well). Lyra’s been trapped in some Rocket Hideout, if I recall correctly, for awhile purely because I cannot remember what I was doing, and I’d rather start over all the way than just look it up.

I picked up Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl for me and my wife. We also play Scarlet and Violet.
