    Yes, Xi made an announcement last week it will start off in one of the major cities with full removal in a few months. Chinese citizens will be able to sign up on all ‘western’ social media. The US opening Pandora’s box with the TikTok ban has let the Genie out of the bottle. I suspect other tech to come out of China will make the US look like its living in the mid 1800s

      Do you have a source for this, I was trying to find anything about it but couldn’t. It would be quite interesting if they do end up taking it down, and I would love to read more.

        I was also curious about this (it’s rather surprising news). This seems like tankie misinformation.

        The only somewhat relevant source was this article in SCMP from Jan 17th where a Shanghai party official called from partial lifting of internet restrictions in some areas.

        That being said, it doesn’t look like this went over well:

        It is not clear when the post was put online but it was removed on Friday morning.
