    They absolutely should.

They pay more than nearly every other state in taxes, and the motherfuckers at the Federal Government are unironically talking about withholding disaster aid after a historic wildfire in the nation’s second-largest city. They should get a blank check to rebuild and help their people because they pay a fuckton in taxes. It’s as simple as that.

That statement requires an awfully large asterisk.

Yes, California pays the most in taxes, but only because the population is so much larger. It also gets most of the back. Whether California is a “giver” or a “taker” state depends on exactly how you measure it, and what year. Regardless, it’s always very close to even.

But yes, the premise of federal disaster aide is horribly broken. It shouldn’t work as a Congressional GoFundMe after each disaster hits, where donors get to decide if they “deserve” the money. Either Congress has disaster aide setup, or it doesn’t. That needs to apply to California, Florida, or wherever.

We are not leaving. This is a scam / hail mary to remove the largest blue state from the electoral college. They tried it a few years ago and it went nowhere.

Losing your biggest agricultural, tech, and media industry as well as a sixth of your GDP to own the libs.
