At the bottom, “What Can Leaders Do: How to Improve Employee Engagement”

Three bullet points, none of which are “Fucking pay people fairly.”

I also notice how this article uses the phrase “employee engagement” over and over without ever offering any explanation of what that even is.

We hired a second person that does what I do and I got an 8% raise shortly after. Come to find out the new person got hired making 20% more than me. About a year later I finished a graduate degree and was told no, and very shortly after that we went on a company wide pay freeze. Things are looking up company wise, though, so I expect the next raise discussion to go differently, but I’ll be leaving if it doesn’t.

All that to say I have made it a point to slow down my deliverables since I was denied that last raise.

I really like my job but I would drop it so fast if a competitor offered me even a 10% raise. I’ll come back in a year when this company offers the same.

Loyalty goes both ways and the companies were the ones to break the contract first. Make me feel valued (financially) and I’ll stay but my paycheck has never reflected how every year is a record profit year. In fact, my raises haven’t even reflected inflation - I’ve effectively taken 3 pay cuts.

Gen Z is the generation born to the first generation denied the American Dream. They’re also the first born into the digital age where information is easy to access, of course they’re not interested. They see it for the scam that it is. How could you blame them for not wanting to play a rigged game?
