I was just doing Nugi meme my man, but yeah I hear ya. Crafting system is petty brutal right now, especially for weapons. Are you SSF or something? I’m on my 3rd alt, and I’ve found it very easy to gear all of them for maps via trade site for under 30exalts each. If you’re new to GGG, they do balance the loot system around the idea you have access to trade.
I think you have made a very insightful observation. I’m speaking from the perspective of a long time poe1 player. For me, I want to get to the endgame farming to put pinnacle bosses on farm mode and find all the best gear, asap. Buying my gear progression makes more sense personally, and it is definitely a fast and efficient way to trivialize the campaign content if you have the currency to do so.
For a new player, this probably isn’t the case, as you point out. Here’s why: I know GGG quite well after all these years, and what they actually intend for us is to play pseudo-SSF…they really want us crafting our own gear and/or finding good upgrades on the ground. However, they recognize that a live trade economy adds tremendous chase value to the best gear, and so they want that as part of the game too, which means they have to balance drops around it. This can put the players in a weird spot sometimes.
I think that if you enjoy doing things your way, by all means craft your own gear and have fun. It’s definitely possible to do this and be fine, if you have enough time. Many of the best streamers play SSF. If you are short on time or get stuck/frustrated while progressing, perhaps a few upgrades from trade would make more sense. Just have to find the right balance for you!
I haven’t dabbled in the market just yet. I should have awhile back. I just wanted to get a feel for the game, see the options available to me and then maybe have some idea of what to trade for.
For my merc, a decent crossbow with a useful implicit is obvious enough, but aside from that and more skill support slots, I don’t really know what I should be focusing on. It’s one of the reasons I haven’t been trading at all yet. The other two are still very much in the campaign crunch and don’t need any trade just yet.
I’m a bit lost on where I want my sorc to go… I thought I had a plan, but attempting it didn’t work out at all, so I took a break from her in act 1b to gather myself and have a good think about it.
And I wanted to try a bonk man, so I made one. Outside of the act 2 boss I ran into last night, I’ve been cruising through pretty nicely. Nothing else has even been a blip on the difficulty radar.
Update: I augmented my flask with another modifier and managed to squeak out a win. It wasn’t pretty, but it did work. And since then I have had no issues. My dps is ever so slightly dropping off, but I can still clear the room in a couple attacks, and in a few more levels my attack will be back on the rise.
That’s cool, I’m really excited for you…so much to discover!
There’s a lot of value in figuring out your own path when making builds, but it can really be overwhelming at first because the gearing and itemization choice is quite deep compared to other games. If you’re feeling stuck on your merc, consider checking out a few build guides on the mobalytics website to see what others are doing and try to adapt what you find for your build. If you search through and find a couple that use the same main skill you’d like to use, you might find some common patterns between them which could be useful.

I was struggling on a boss act3. I bought a nice weapon from another player and it trivialized the content way too much.
Not sure I recommend this experience…
It looks to me it completely destroy the need for crafting as it’s more efficient in resources to buy from another player.
I’m new player (ended act3 regular and now refilling ssf hc) so I would like your feedback to know more
