    It’s a toy audience the ref yells things that he wants to say back to the audience during the day.

      That’s kind of what confuses me. Don’t referees normally only talk with the players to ensure a fair game? I’ve never heard of them talking with the audience, but I also don’t really watch sports.

        Referees are often yelled at or booed when they make a call the fans don’t agree with. An especially common remark is that the ref must be blind to have missed calling a penalty.
