Look, I enjoyed the Fugitive, but the whole “Hollywood doesn’t make em like they used to” bullshit is overplayed. There are many recent films of varying quality that could be described as action thrillers for an adult audience. And if anyone made a film to much like The Fugitive, it would be unfavorably compared to the original.
This author is using nostalgia to boil up some discontent in order to drive engagement, including my own little rant about how stupidly wrong it is. Better to ignore it as insipid tripe than to argue the points.
They sure don’t do journalism like they used to.
Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be.
I read an article about how the Atlantic, owned by Steve Jobs widow, employs a leader who is ex-israeli military and that their coverage of the conflict in the last year has been one-sided and horrific. It was damning.
“The reason it’s called the Atlantic is that it belongs at the bottom of the ocean” was the title. I was convinced and disappointed, I remember them having interesting articles back in the day but am done reading them.
They made a movie about an old tv show. This is exactly what Hollywood makes today.
They even mention it in the article, seemingly without any awareness of the irony.
It was a remake of an old TV show.
I thought Hollywood was all out of ideas?!
I’m reading a lot of comments here saying “I don’t get it” but not realizing they’re saying they don’t get it.
The Fugitive was my favorite movie when it was made. It’s still up there. Some movies have a special influence on trends, or exemplify a particular genre. The Fugitive is peak something. It’s certainly not “just the remake of an old TV show.”
You don’t have to squat and shit on things that stand out. It’s okay not to talk about things you don’t know about.
As the one who said it was a remake of a show, I will give you that. It was peak adaptation of an older show. You’re very right there, it’s a damn good movie that stands on its own, regardless of where the idea came from.
I just liked throwing that typical argument back in the face of the writer. Hollywood keeps trying to recapture that lightning in a bottle, and gets criticized for it.

No action movies that deal with adult character concerns and feature development over the course of the movie? Somebody should tell the author of the article about Everything Everywhere All At Once, she would probably like it.
