I’d never given to Wikimedia before.

    Now I have.

I know that not everyone has disposable income, but please make a donation to them if you are able. They’re the best thing remaining on the internet.

Download Wikipedia. It doesn’t take much storage space without pictures. Then when it gets taken down, sued, hacked, edited with misinformation etc you still have it. I was thinking this months ago and this now confirms their plans.

I’ve only donated once before, and that was like $25 a year ago. Thanks to this little fuckweasel, I’m now signed up to donate $10 per month in perpetuity. Eat shit, Musk.

Fuck Elon, nevertheless, it is important to see in what Wikimedia foundation are spending its donations on, just like Mozilla.

I absolutely condone violence, and while I shall only attempt to harm Elon Musk by not purchasing any of his companies’ products, if I were to read on one of Lemmy’s news communities that someone had, let’s say, shotgunned all of Elon’s entrails out, I’m pretty sure I would respond by laughing myself into a state of acute respiratory distress.

Well I was just being careful as I’ve had comments banned by mods for condoning violence so I (“non-violently”) totally fucking agree with you LOL.

          1. I’ve gotten away with a little bit of shit given my exaggerated “Yarr fuck ye face matey” comedy persona. My handle is Captain_Aggravated, after all.

          2. While it might be a little more 80’s action movie vivid, I think the sentiment I expressed isn’t much more than “I’ve never killed anyone but I’ve read some obituaries with great amusement” or however it was phrased commonly attributed to Mark Twain, and

          3. Someone used a pistol, rifle or one of these fucking things in the preparation of most of the meals I’ve ever eaten. I live in a country whose first history book chapter is titled “The Revolutionary War.” Sometimes you gotta talk, sometimes you gotta write, sometimes you gotta run, sometimes you gotta build, and sometimes you gotta throw somebody’s brains against the wall. Welcome to the biosphere. Violence is a fact of life. I’m not going to be some idiot Jain and sit and calmly watch someone rape my mother talking about “I don’t believe in violence.” Who among us is stupid enough to pretend any of us are actually like that? “Don’t condone violence” fuck your trachea.

      I dont condone violence

Depends on the recipient. Oligarchs like Musk enact a widespread and constant barrage of violence against the entire planet. If some -absolute hero- were to kill him, the violence needed to kill him would barely qualify as rounding error compared to the violence that would be put to an end by doing so.

That’s why so many people cheered when the UHC CEO was dropped - it’s not a celebration of death or violence, or bloodlust, or even revenge; but relief at the sudden reduction of evil we were all gifted.

So… not condoning violence against people like Musk is supporting a much broader and more sinister type of violence.

Eh, institutions mostly don’t go away because their leader shuffles of their mortal coil. And whoever ends up replacing them will be in the same situation as their predecessor. As in, UHC benefits from denying coverage, and that hasn’t changed just because the CEO died.

That being said, Musk acts too publicly, which, while it ultimately makes him less efficient, also makes him more dangerous. At least until he pisses Trump of to a degree where Trump wants to get rid of him, which may have already happened.

We’re in the funniest timeline, it’s just that the joke is at our expense.

that hasn’t changed just because the CEO died.

Blue Cross Blue Shield immediately rolled back their decision to not cover anesthesia in surgery after the assassination, and I believe there were a handful of similar examples (or were there? …I can’t recall the details).

So, one supervillain killed and the people as a whole tangibly benefit as a direct result. Could more be happening? Oh fuck yeah - oligarchs are going to do the bare minimum not to get their heads on a pike, and they’re now feeling out where that line is. So if it stays at just one oligarch, things will probably stay about where they’re at. If people are still pissed and another one gets taken out, we’ll probably see their grip loosened even more.

There will always be a new face eager to collect a shit ton of money to fill in for the dead dipshit before them, but the more they’re reminded that the little will only bend over and take so much before the constant squeeze becomes a mortal liability to the oligarch, the less we’ll be squeezed.

The biggest effect the murder had was that it got people talking about how fucked up the health insurance industry is. That is why Blue Cross Shield rolled back their decision. As if a security detail for the CEO costs more than they’d save/make with their anesthesia time limit scheme.
