For a long time, Brave was the best way to do it, but then Orion started supporting Firefox plugins. Safari had some extensions that also worked for a while. Ad blocking worked perfectly, I had many options, and YT was great again.

Recently, all of that changed when YT or Apple implemented something that makes video playback stop after 1 minute. At the moment, I just have to use a proper computer for watching YT, since mobile devices don’t have functioning ad blocking any more.

Has anyone else noticed something similar? Is is just my devices, or do other people have the same issues?

I use fire fox focus browser on my iphone and that works great for blocking adds. Can only have one tab open at a time, and often times buttons on web pages just have a default icon.

I use Firefox Focus all the time for clicking various unfamiliar links on Lemmy and elsewhere, and it’s really good at blocking all sorts of online annoyances. However, YT ads are beyond the scope of what it can actually accomplish. Also, it won’t do full screen video.

It does full screen video and blocks ads for me.

I can even get it to pop out the video in Picture in Picture. All on the YouTube page.

You know, i kept seeing this kind of post or comment every so often but i genuinely never encountered any problem with youtube.

Then again i dont watch youtube that much, maybe a couple of videos once a week when im looking for something specific. But, everytime i go on youtube, i never had any full screen ads or anything blocking my ad blocker.

The only thing i have on my phone was adguard ad blocker with adguard personal dns. At home i have my asus router with adguard personal DNS. On my laptop, i have adguard and firefox with adguard extension.

My wife also rarely comment on any ads when she’s on youtube. I also sideloaded a modified youtube app on her phone because the app is much better experience on safari.

Maybe you can learn how to sideload youtube app? Its easy if you use sidestore app. No need to tether to pc when you need to refresh the youtube app.

I’m using the free adguard, so I don’t have access to all of the features. However, for a while it was able to block YT ads on Safari, but those days are now gone.

Sideloading stuff is something I should look into though. Got any good sources to get me started?

You may not find this answer satisfactory, but you could use Invidious from any browser. I have no idea if there are any Invidious-based iOS apps.

Invidious certainly is a fine solution for casual watching. This might actually end up being sufficient in the long run as YT dives deeper into enshittification.

I used Orion for a bit too whatever Apple did to break it is annoying but I’ve moved back to Piped and while it’s not perfect I haven’t seen a single ad and I got sponsor block built in.

Some instances don’t work due to google cracking down but there’s plenty they haven’t got yet
