As requested, here are some places to look. Golden age comics are the best for this sort of silly stuff and many are public domain, so there are multiple places to look for them. Be warned, it is overwhelming. They churned out comics back then like they were gum wrappers.

Feel like wading through the mess of the Internet Archive if you like: https://archive.org/details/comics
If you wish to brave the evil that is Reddit, there is: https://www.reddit.com/r/GoldenAgeComics/
If anyone has other resources, feel free to add them. Please no pirate sites, there’s a lot of “read today’s comics online for free” sites which would violate lemmy.world ToS.
Is this sub also for posting things found in comics that aren’t panels, like this?
… what the Kentucky fried fuck is that?
“Hey comic book reader! Here’s a lighthearted questionnaire on your opinions on Jews and negroes”
I guess it would be ok as long as there’s not a ton of it.
Should/can we post context in the posts? It’s hard with copyrighted comics, because you can only really link directly to pirate websites. The best you can do otherwise is say like “Superman (1939) #7, page 25”.
I would avoid links to pirated content since it violates lemmy.world ToS, but feel free to link to any PD comics. I think otherwise, yeah, you’ll just have to say the comic and issue number.
I would prefer adding context in a spoilers tag, if you’re going to do it. Especially if you’re going to describe the situation. And also what Squid recommended.
Spoilers tag just lets everyone else maintain ignorance for the lols.
Interesting that there’s a razor blade charm pendant option in this ad. This was in 1976, well before I’ve ever heard of cutting being a thing, which is the only reason I can think of that they’d have it.
Cocaine.
Oh good call, wasn’t thinking of that. I think of cocaine as more of an 80’s thing, but it was definitely a thing in the 70’s too.
Another good idea is to get an image compression app. I tried a couple online sites, Sqoosh and Image Resizer, but those were having trouble on mobile for me.
So I ended up just DLing an image compression app from the play store, and it works great. The one I got was “Photo Compressor”. It has ads, but you can do multiple pictures at once to limit the ads.
I usually just take screenshots. It’s quick and easy and not massive in terms of images.
My screenshots are always too large, even after cropping.
FYI this one works great on Android, and is open source:

Not sure if it’s on the play store or not, but you can download the apk directly from that page if it’s not and you don’t already have F-Droid installed
Here are some other great resources:
Dollar bins at your Local Comic Shop
Flea Markets
Garage Sales
True, but those aren’t free.
Tried looking at Secrets of Love and Marriage and some other similar ones on digitalcomicmuseum.com. Mostly a bust, the genre tends to be really wordy and also just bad. I did find this, but context actually makes it worse. It looks normal, but the context is that they’re pretty much step siblings:
Yeah, the romance comics can be a real slog. You’ll find you’re likely to have more fun with the horror, mystery and superhero comics.
I’ve been going through old Archie comics, and there’s a lot of fakes and edits. Is it worth creating a sticky thread for posting about those when we find them?
I don’t see why not, but don’t think it will stop people from posting them any more than the rule 3 thread stops those.
Not so much for stopping people from posting, but more a handy reference / interesting collection of fakes/edits/etc. I’ll create the post and if it doesn’t carry its weight, we can unsticky it
