When people say accelerationists aren’t logical, I always think of climate change.
4 years from now might be enough time to still save some of us. But if we get a “moderate” that’s pro-fracking and for record breaking domestic fossil fuel production, they’re gonna run again in four years, so it’ll be at least 8 years for a more progressive candidate. Normally the parties switch, so more like 12-16.
The difference between 4 years till action and 12-16 is incredibly significant. Even if those four years things got worse faster, it’s unlikely to be as much damage as that 12-16 even if things get worse a little slower at times.
I don’t agree with them mind you, but it’s not like they’re being completely illogical.
The difference between driving off a cliff at 10mph and 50mph is pretty negligible. Some people would evaluate the situation and think flooring it when your ten miles away isnt that bad of a risk if it means it’ll scare the next driver into slamming the brakes a mile away from the cliff.
People might still be mad you scared them, but it’s better than laying dead with them at the bottom of the cliff.
The thing is if it works, it looks like a completely unnecessary risk to everyone that can’t see more than half a mile down the road.
I flirt with accelerationism by taking long showers. /s
In all seriousness, I’ve thought about it. But I came to realize it’s going to happen anyway.
I mean, it really comes down to what state you vote in.
Biden had zero chance to win my state, so if he was the candidate I probably was going to vote 3rd party for prez.
Harris still has effectively a zero percent chance to win my state, but there’s the slimmest shot and I feel like since the party pulled Biden… Still voting 3rd party is a confusing message.
But it’s not like you get a comment box to explain why you voted the way you did, and my state is so red the DNC is never going to give out results a second look anyways
It just absolutely sucks that elections are this important, and for the vast amount of the country, our votes really don’t matter.
I was fucking ecstatic to see Walz even mention how fucked the Electoral college is, but Kamala immediately distanced herself and the ticket from it.

This is why I think that the easiest way to strengthen democracy is from the bottom up where possible.
4 years till action
That’s marathon farming.
Only 2.5℃? Awwww… how adorable. They’re still using the hilariously optimistic estimate, instead of the BAU (Business As Usual) path that we are still solidly on.
