  • the minute you add “Marxist” to that sentence everyone shuts their brain off because of over a century of red scare nonsense. As designed.

Which is a real shame, because collectivist systems are the only way we can survive long-term on this planet. Collectivist systems allow us to pool resources and consumption, allowing more people to subsist at the same level of comfort while using far less.

One of the biggest scams ever perpetrated on humanity (other than religion, that is) is the adoption of an economic system that demands infinite growth on a finite planet. In the real world, such as when looking at population dynamics, these systems always lead to catastrophic collapses that eviscerate that population and frequently produces long-term damage to the local ecosystem that prevents said population from easily recovering. Or recovering at all, if we’re talking about a species of megafauna (over 45Kg, on average).

Most megafauna that significantly overshoot go extinct, and humanity entered overshoot at the 2B population point early last century. With how we have damaged the ecosystem, the planet’s natural carrying capacity has probably declined to less than 1B humans. This is particularly concerning because any end-stage economic crash (via the chaotic weather of climate change) will lead to a population crash (with the failure of agriculture at scale and the international trade that supplies us with 90+% of all food), and will also destroy any ability to produce and maintain the technology that allows us to artificially exceed the planet’s carrying capacity via agriculture at scale. I would be very surprised if humanity still exceeds 2B people by the end of this century.

  • For Photoshop alternatives, I’d start with GIMP for photo editing

I have always felt that GIMP was the ultimate software Camel. As in, designed by a committee to include everything and the kitchen sink without any coherent UI/UX.

    It’s the software industry’s 1965 Lada masquerading as a 2024 model.

If it wasn’t for Paint.NET still missing vectorized/sprite-based text (it instantly rasterizes text the moment focus leaves it), I don’t think I could ever use GIMP.

  • Honestly, being the first to market simply means you are shouldering the majority of the risk, and taking the majority of the blind leaps into the abyss.

    The old adage,

“The early bird might get the worm, but it is the second mouse which gets the cheese.”

can be very true in business more often than not. As a second-entrant, you can leverage - or avoid - what the first did to prevent yourself from falling into the same potholes they did. Plus, much of what they did - from a tech perspective - may have constrained their later decisions due to tech debt and the need to move fast. You have the ability to maximize similar decisions by building your product with those more advanced options in mind, or at the very least to have the flexibility to add options like that at a later time.

  • it became tiresome to me after dealing with systems carrying lots of technical debts from past developers. I got burnout in the past, depression came from anxiety which, in turn, came from that very burnout.

I have much the same problem, however,

it became tiresome to me after dealing with systems carrying lots of technical debts from past developers.

This could be your opportunity to build a SAAS product the way you want, such that you can fully minimize that technical debt. I don’t know about you, but I get energized by the idea of doing things “the right way”, and in ways that benefit my own workflows and ideals.

Furthermore, for IT positions, professional networking is a must, something that, as an introvert, I didn’t really build. So when I apply for a job vacancy, I’m just another “anybody” in the eyes of that business.

This is where building your own product allows you to bypass all this. Granted, once you crank out your absolute Minimum Viable Product and throw it against the wall to see if it’ll stick long enough for world+dog to begin eating it, you will need to start marketing the product, which - at that stage - is simply yeeting it at the appropriate community and employing Observability to see how they use the product.

There are a ton of details that do matter very much, but a lot of SAAS products can be bootstrapped through the MVC stage on a literal shoestring. Like, even on your own iron if you’re willing to host at home on a strong symmetrical SOHO (business-class) fibre Internet connection.

  • Ben Shapiro is a moron. And so is pretty much anyone who has ever punted the “alpha male” narrative.

What I do, exclusively, is listen to what “feminists” say, and compare it to not only reality, but also how any flip-side examples for men are perceived. From there it is clear that the ideology is one of gender supremacy. There is no other possible interpretation, because there is no equality in their objectives. Any “benefits” that men accrue from feminism are purely by happenstance and lucky accident, but the foundation and exclusive intent of any one incident has always been female-first and almost always to the intentional exclusion of men.

  • Things along the lines of “women don’t matter” are commonly spoken by feminists

And yet - facts and evidence. In a western society, those are severely lacking from their argument, whereas the flip side is bleeding out everywhere. Hell, a saucy jaunt through any dating service - online or meatworld - is a severe cognitive dissonance to anyone trying to shill the “women don’t matter” bullshit, as beyond the top-2% of men, women have ALL the power in the dating world.

I just thank the fates that I left the dating scene behind me almost three decades ago. From what I can see, things have gotten much, much worse for men since then, and it was already horrid back then.

Then there is the gender sentencing gap in the legal system, which is three times larger than the wealth sentencing gap, and seven times larger than the racial sentencing gap. And no, this is taking into account the exact same crime with the exact same damages.
