    It’s a weird show.

    It’s not the stereotypical “Hero With 1000 Faces” type of story, and it’s very meta that way.

    I enjoyed it, and thought it was well done with the art and direction, but it’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea.

    I think it’s also a matter of being “too Japanese” to be popular with all the references to shoguns, shrines, and other concepts in Japanese history that most people aren’t familiar with.

    It makes a lot more sense if you’ve even done a shallow dive into feudal Japan, like reading James Clavell’s Shogun novel for example. I’m not sure how well the recent TV adaptation explains everything.
