In De la Cruz’s case, Democratic-aligned challengers argued that seven of the PSL’s 19 presidential electors named in the paperwork were registered as Democrats, violating a political disaffiliation provision which prohibits minor-party candidates from being registered with a major party within 30 days of a primary.
This might seem like an unreasonable requirement, but it belies a lack of honesty in the campaign. You can’t just decide you’re going to fix everything wrong with American Democracy within a month. You can’t just do nothing for four years and then show up just in time for the primaries to pretend like you’re a viable party.

I get what you are saying, but they actually do a LOT of protesting and union help. And have done that long before running for this election. Running for pres def makes them more visible, but they do lots of stuff besides that, and not just every four years.
Now I will say that I agree that they should run for other offices as well. And I hope the publicity and fire they are getting from this election lets them know that there are more and more people who support them and their causes, so that they can concentrate on running for other offices as well.
Having said that, they are not the socialist party that I’m voting for–I’m actually voting for Socialist Working Party’s Rachele Fruit (who’s even less known than De la Cruz!). But I still really like De la Cruz’s spirit and her campaign.
