When I saw this question, I thought uh oh, this is a potentially dangerous one. For the reason you stated. Also, getting bad advice from internet strangers. I imagine any good advice would vary significantly depending on which homophobic country we’re talking about.

If I were queer in Saudi Arabia, Iran, or Russia, I would absolutely not be trying to find other queer people; that shit can easily get you killed.
