I’m looking for something I can use on my laptop. The official spotify client works, but it’s a bit slow so was wondering if there are alternatives.
I got a spotify account, so would like to be able to use this one with it.
Thanks!
There’s Spot: https://github.com/xou816/spot which is a GTK client.
It has limited functionality at the moment but enough to find and listen to music.

This is the case of every 3rd party spotify client as far as i know, as the functionality on Spotify’s end needed for a 3rd party client to function is paywalled.

https://github.com/Rigellute/spotify-tui
There is also spotifyd but I think development on it is a bit slow.
I just watched a video about Tauon Music Box this morning https://peertube.linuxrocks.online/w/rQuqEhaB6uJZanxhDCb3w6. From the video description: Tauon Music Box is a minimalist Spotify Front end and Music Player for the Linux Desktop. It’s in active development and designed to be both beautiful and to get out of the way.
Thanks, I’ll give it a go
Mopidy works well but is also slow.
There’s https://github.com/jpochyla/psst. It works pretty well, although I do believe it needs premium.

Can I use any of these without an account? Is there a way to skip ads? I closed my Spotify account when I heard about their censorship - but, i really used it anyway because of the ads.
