The amount of articles stating that the hotel placements are a horrible idea that forces people to live in a single room without food preparation areas, without clothing washing and drying facilities, and without private areas are awful has been numerous. The link wasn’t her telling asylum seekers to go home, it was standing in parliament calling on the government to stop putting people in unsuitable locations.
This is precisely the conversation we need to have because ignoring it leads to stronger reactions, and ultimately right wing rhetoric of “stop the boats”, “deport to Rwanda”, and burning the hotels, etc.
Advocating for the people to live in a Holiday Inn for years at a time shows such little empathy towards these people fleeing the horrors of their home countries.
