Just felt like posting here since no one else will! Don’t tell me to go to Discord… The UI enrages me like no other.
I’m newish, started with Nobara 39, did a fresh install of 40 after upgrade had dependency problems with wine-staging64 and one other (k5s-something? Sorry). I want to like this distro… Some observations:
The live environment is allowed to suspend the PC during the install process!
Discover Software Center seems to be gone and I can’t install it; I get a notification: “Plasma Workspace / Could not read file appstream://org.kde.discover.desktop.”
There is Nobara Package Manager, a huge list with checkboxes down the left that need to be individually clicked; right-click and Select all doesn’t do anything.
I still (sometimes) get Plasma graphical glitches on resuming from suspend. NVIDIA!
My son’s ancient PC runs 39 beautifully, but 40 lags every five seconds even just sitting idle at the desktop.
Games are running great and I love the ease of installing Steam and flipping the compatibility switch, and instantly having Proton-GE available.
I wanted to get Sunshine running for Moonlight, but I guess it has major problems with Wayland (not Fedora’s/Nobara’s fault).
You’re clearly passionate about linux and have some great observations, some I’ve shared myself, but I’m not certain the title is super constructive 😅.
I did walk away during installation and came back to my PC having gone to hibernation, I think the timer is set to 10 or 15 minutes or something, which is ridiculous for a live environment.
I don’t really recognize the other problems, but then again, I only switched to Nobara 41 this year because I knew the 570 drivers from Nvidia was finally good enough for VRR in Wayland. And I’ve been having a great time this last month.
Maybe earlier versions of Nobara just had teething problems? I’ve definitely noticed a few tweaks I had to make myself.Yeah, title was a reference to this community being completely dead; mine was the only post here in the past 10 months, thanks for reading it! 😁
I have since gone full Arch with my gaming PC and have an easier time with EndeavourOS than Nobara. All my other machines are more than 10 years old and run Linux Mint Debian Edition. 😅
It’s a shame it’s dead here. Most happens on the discord as you also mentioned. Even the subreddit is kind of dead.
If I get tired of Nobara and go for an Arch distro I’ll probably go with CachyOS due to recent benchmark results favoring it, but endeavour also looks good. I’m just not sure I want to remove the training wheels just yet heh.
