Izu is in the party from the get-go, and the gang cooks up a mimic, though in a very different manner to what we saw in the final story.

This seems to be set right before they encounter the Red Dragon. In the final story, they haven’t even met Shuro yet at this point.
I like how the entire gang does hungry eyes at the realisation of there being Mimic to cook. In this version, everyone’s inhibitions are long gone.
Izu ends up working sort of like a reader self-insert, asking questions the reader would be asking.
