We told on Wednesday how letters of no confidence were reportedly being sent in against the Prime Minister before he announced the date of the election.

Writing on Twitter/X, GB News’ political editor Christopher Hope said: “Wow! Extraordinary but true – some furious Conservative MPs are tonight working on a plot to CALL OFF the General Election by replacing Rishi Sunak as leader before Parliament is dissolved next Thursday.

“One rebel Tory MP tells me he believes ‘several’ more letters of no confidence in Sunak have been submitted to 1922 chairman Sir Graham Brady.

“The senior Conservative MP told me: ‘Today has clearly been an absolute disaster but the election is NOT irrevocable; up until the point of the dissolution of Parliament – when the writs are moved to begin the contests, it can still be aborted. In other words, if enough Tory MPs, who are clearly going to lose their seats in this already utterly shambolic campaign, write to Sir Graham Brady, tomorrow, the election could still be revoked.’”

    And then what?

This is just further evidence that the Tories don’t care about democracy, in fact they are a danger to it and need to be got rid of ASAP.

Yep. But it dose make me wonder. Was the sudden call of the election more about Sunak avoiding a vote of non confidence. Then a strategic move.

Now, this is an absolutely terrible idea with no redeeming features whatsoever but before we dismiss it just because of it’s total lack of merit, we should also consider that it would be really, really funny.

      I’m preparing some popcorn now.

      It’s like the conversation went:

“We’ll be wrecked in the General Election!”

“Wrecked! Wrecked! Hold my pint I’ll show you wrecked!”

The kind of headbanger they’d put in place, plus the additional turmoil and annoyance caused to the voters could see them go into third place. Which would be nice. Or would it? The Reform Party’s announcements makes me wonder if they are just out to leave the Tories in such a state that they’ll beg Farage to lead them. This lunacy starts to look like the other prong of the attack.
