I’m rarely bothering to make an effort when getting dressed anymore :( I also miss the energy of the reddit community. Maybe I fed off of that idk

I have a challenge for you. Feel free to ignore if it isn’t your thing.

I’m creating a science fiction universe for fun. Tell me what they will wear. Here are the basic constraints:

    • this is well past the age of scientific discovery
    • all human scale technology is grown
    • nearly all of humanity lives in O’Neill cylinders
    • all technology must be in balance with the elemental cycles, so no industrially produced goods that require waste like metals or plastics within the habits
    • biology as a science is complete, so any adaptation or material property found in nature can be adapted and grown. As an example, banyan and ginkgo trees are grown into complex framing for structures while chitin (anthropod exoskeletons etc.) Is grown into structures like walls and other sheeting materials.
    • This is no age of primitivism, but one of responsible sustainability, and unlimited genetic technology. You have no machines to play with. They exist outside of the habitat, but are not part of life in the habitat.

I’m likely to make this open source under a share alike license some time soon. I have an enormous amount of info already created for a detailed future universe and around half of a book written. I have no illusion of grandeur. No one is likely to read or pay attention to anything I create. I have no credentials or connections. It is simply a fun hobby endeavor. I haven’t put any time into thinking about clothing that people might wear. It is about the only way I know how to participate here and say ‘I’m happy you’re here,’ at least that is my intent in saying all of this.

Yeah, Lemmy still has nowhere the size of Reddit. I personally prefer it here, but I imagine managing a small community can be rather lonely.

That said, I love to lurk in the smaller communities, and I love to see your posts.

Only “FOSS this, Linux that” and sometimes war-related news can get a little tiring, and while photography and SuberbOwl seem to do fine and ImaginaryX still is around, it doesn’t feel like much is else going on.

Don’t let yourself feel chained to this place and get depressed, that’s the last thing we (I) would want. If you feel that the engagement level here doesn’t meet your needs (especially seeing that you are virtually the only one keeping this community alive), then it’s totally understandable to seek a community that better accommodates you. You could always be both places in the hopes that Lemmy might pick up speed someday, but I wouldn’t blame you if you chose one over the other.

TL:DR: We love you, but not enough for you to sacrifice your health or mental wellbeing. Stay safe, stay healthy! (I hope that didn’t come off wrong.)

Same here, I’m big into goth/cyberpunk styles, and am actually finally growing my wardrobe a little thanks to a few of your older posts.
