Damn I need to start doing pet portraits for money. I’ve done some freebies for family but apparently I’ve been missing out on piles of sweet rich people cash.

I assumed that it’s only a matter of time until AI makes it trivial to generate these kinds of composite images. Then it’s just a matter of tracing it onto canvas and painting over. You can already get paintings of your pet done overseas for quite cheap, I assume they will transition to this workflow to be even faster.

      no. they won’t.

the point is spending the boatload of money because you’re wealthy and have nothing better to spend it on.

Printing off a photo at a photo center is already highly automated and trvially easy. So yeah, I agree that the people comissioning portraits don’t care if there’s a cheaper and easier option. These people are making an emotional purchase and don’t have to worry about some trifling thing like a budget.

The thing is the AI generated image gives them a form of control over the final product. People, even rich people, like that.
