Dungeon Meshi is a well liked manga, and an adaptation by Studio Trigger is now airing. If you haven’t picked this one up, consider joining us. Both for fun and as a way of contributing to activity on Lemmy.

Episodes are available to stream on Netflix.

It’s a classic episode! With the gang just running around finding stuff to eat! Except things get way closer to going wrong each time, now.

The gang is now far deeper in the dungeon, in much more dire conditions.

This time around they run into some sexy-looking plants, and they deal with a Cockatrice! Marcille ends up taking one for the team.

However, this episode still continues the high concentration of lore that the series has now worked up to. Marcille teaches Lios magic, tells us more about the forbidden kind, and we get to witness the dungeon itself take a breath as it transforms right before the eyes of our quartet.

Remember not to spoil anything if you’re a manga reader, but feel free to elaborate on tidbits of lore that may not be coming through in the adaptation.

This is my favorite episode so far.

So many tiny things add up to a series of absolutely fantastic character and lore moments.

    Senshi’s little senshi-antibodies.

Senshi giving Chilchuck, a father of three, “the talk”.

    The “pumpkins”.

    This:

Marcille explaining that the defining difference of forbidden magic is the way it uses spatial magic to open a connection to another dimension from which energy can be tapped, thereby allowing spells to do more than what the mana-pool of the caster would normally allow.

Laios hearing the ghosts of the city during his mana sickness.

    Marcille getting petrified mid-sentence.

Laios passing out frothing at the mouth trying to read her spellbook.

“You shouldn’t use someone as a fermentation weight.”

God this episode is an absolute banger. The list above isn’t even comprehensive.

    There was this:

The Marcille x Laios fuel is starting to drop.

    Relevant.

And I now realize Goth-Marcy would be mega cute.

      Senshi-antibodies

This part was really funny to me too. I work with antibodies professionally, so I can’t tell you how many times I have seen somebody have a version of how an antibody works in their slides. If they were as fun as the Senshi-antibodies, then I wouldn’t zone out as easily I think.

      Marcille x Laios

Noo! I didn’t know I needed it until a couple episodes ago, but I won’t accept anything other than Marcille x Falin. I think people are sleeping on the chemistry this episode with Laios x Senshi.

      Goth-Marcy would be mega cute

Adventure Time had a goth Marcy, but she was a vampire instead of an elf:

        Marceline is technically a human-demon-vampire.

        And yes, she’s mega-cute.
