I’m curious if other users are experiencing timeouts reaching midwest.social several times a day? I’m browsing through the summit and connect Android apps, for context. I’m unable to load anything (/all feed and posts) several times a day on this account so I just wanted to see if others are experiencing the same thing.
Edit: I hope my tone didn’t come off as ungrateful, that was not my intent! I just wanted to sanity check if there was something wrong with my network or client(s). Thank you seahorse for your hard work!
At about 11 PM last night I updated to a newer RC version for the lemmy backend which is RC.10. Maybe that fixed it? I’m not very familiar with how the software works but this all started after upgrading to 0.18.0. I know Ruud from lemmy.world made some PRs to fix some things.
Yes. Another thing I’ve noticed is that the app I’m using (Jerboa) frequently fails to load subscribed and likes to randomly sign me out and then back in after waiting and then restarting the app.
IMO this is more or less to be expected, it’s a new service undergoing rapid growth that lacks the resources and labor available to its competitors. Most if not all of these issues will be worked out over time.
Yes, and I wonder if midwest.social has been having the same problems documented here:
We’re all dangling from the whiskers of some true power admins, pros running instances from home and carefully chosen cloud server racks, and yet when thousands of users throw themselves at an open source project, shit happens. Ruud and his peers probably understand what all that was, I certainly don’t.
My sympathies are with everyone who picked up the promise of the Fediverse, and hosted their own thing without 10 years of experience as a professional server admin. The nature of this place is that things might break, and somebody won’t be able to look at it until they come home from work. My patience is long, here.
There’s a matrix instance for midwest.social that might be able to help. I had a couple connection issues this morning, but it seems to be back up now. I know seahorse is doing a lot of work to keep things running.
Personally I’m not upset about it, I’ve been chalking it up to growing pains thanks to the migration.
I wonder how many more users and browsers we’ve seen since July 1st.
Experiencing it as well
Yeah I’m seeing them too, both on the website and through Liftoff.
Same
Also noticing. Seem to to away after a few minutes/tries.
Been a few days of it yeah. Still one of the faster instances I’ve tried so far.
