I can’t believe how quickly this group is growing, it’s only been a little over 2 weeks since this community was created so we could share awe-inspiring photos of the cosmos and we are already well over one thousand subscribers.
To continue to attract new people so that this community will really take off, we need to continue to have user engagement. So, if there are any ideas that you would like to see implemented here, or new ideas for the community, please let me know. Perhaps you would like to see more general space discussions, instead of solely sharing of images (there are not many space communities, so that could be a possibility)? Or maybe you hate the name and want to see it changed to something different from it’s Reddit counterpart and have a great suggestion?
Don’t be afraid to share your suggestions, I want this community to be active and reflect what the user’s want it to be.
I really think the “porn” name should be changed. I never feel comfortable recommending communities that have “porn” in the name - it’s pretty embarrassing. Maybe something like “spacepics” could work?
Changed the community name to “SpacePics”. Thank you for the suggestion and I think it is a good change.
Does that mean I need to search and resubscribe? Still showing subscription under the previous name from my instance…
No nothing’s changed with the community, it’s just the subs display name that’s changed. The address and the embedded sub name is still spaceporn.
Oh. Nicely done. Thanks
Thank you very much!
Nice
I’m still seeing SpacePorn
I had to close my app and reopen it for the name to change for me, but it did change to SpacePics. The link address will stay the same though
Sure, that’s been brought up a few times. My initial reason for that name was just to help users coming from Reddit to find familiar communities. I’ll happily change it something else though. I won’t be able to change the actual community link, but the display name can be easily changed. I like SpacePics, unless anyone else has a suggestion that’d like to be considered.
The title could be something descriptive like “The Beauty of Space”, “Space is Beautiful”, “Breathtaking Space Imagery”, or just simply “Space”.
Those are all really good suggestions. I’ll make a poll tomorrow once we see everyone’s suggestions and like the community decide what the name should be.
I’d just like to point out that, at least on Liftoff, searching for ‘space porn’ in communities still brought me here, best of both worlds.
Yeah the community name will always be spaceporn, since I can’t change that, just the display name that’s been changed. It’s like anything else, once there’s porn or never goes away lol
But this really is space porn

Ok perfect, that’s a great idea. We can do a stickied post for upcoming celestial events for the month. It’ll be less cluttered that way, instead of posts for each event. Though, if there’s something very rare or special (comt, eclipse, etc) we can dedicate a post just to that
I dont see tities, disapointed :(
Too hot for Instagram!
One of my favorite communities here glad to see it grow
Thank you very much, I love all things space and seeing other people that like it as much as I do makes me really happy.
I always love these groups for desktop backgrounds, thanks!

Same, I love how a lot of my favorite reddit subs are growing on lemmy now!
Awesome, glad to have you!
LFG
just found it! subbed :D
Just found this community, been looking for something like this for a while
Subbed, and looking forward to hopefully help grow the community.
Awesome to have you!
I’ll never forget the early James Webb images of how large the galaxy is, a frightening and humbling experience
Webb has certainly taken some stunning images and I can’t wait to see what else it will allow.
I used to drool over the images from Hubble’s ultra-deep field. Seeing an image with countless small specs knowing each one is a different galaxy and knowing that the entire image is contained in an area of the sky the size of a dime held at arm’s length really puts into perspective how tiny we all are.
