Dungeon Meshi is a well liked manga, and an adaptation by Studio Trigger is now airing. If you haven’t picked this one up, consider joining us. Both for fun and as a way of contributing to activity on Lemmy.

Episodes are available to stream on Netflix.

Well, crud. That victory really didn’t last.

We finally have an appearance from a proper antagonist, the mad sorcerer. He is an ancient dark elf carrying a spell-book full of forbidden magic. And he’s really not very happy about his pet dragon getting offed.

He seems to think that Falin is the red dragon, now. Or is the red dragon Falin?

Either way, she’s taken away again, and the gang end up as a quartet, licking their wounds in the company of the orcs. As things look to be at their worst, Chilchuck has a crisis of conscience.

Remember not to spoil anything if you’re a manga reader, but feel free to elaborate on tidbits of lore that may not be coming through in the adaptation.

Our girl Marcy really lost it for a second there.

I actually kind of missed it in the manga… But the ghosts really help out here. They step in between Falin and the Master as if to protect her from him, save the gang after they are almost killed by a trap with no way out, and guide Chilchuck to go pick up their stuff.

Like the dead girl that Falin spoke to in last weeks episode, and as Leed comments, these ghosts aren’t hostile. In fact they are likely residents of the city, perpetually trapped in their undeath and begging for release.

Yet, the master seems unconcerned with their suffering.

On a different note, no new OP or ED?!

I am also legitimately surprised that the OP and ED didn’t change because this is the major pivot for the series. All of the pieces are in place so it’s time for plot!!

Likewise! Both are WAY too lighthearted and energetic for what is to come.

Maybe they held it off to not spoil them losing Falin again and the confirmation of the mad mage as the dark elf, that happened this episode. Let’s see if they change it next time.

I hope that is the case. The opening teases characters not shown much in act 1 so I am hoping they’ll showcase some of our act 2 stars!
