Hello from your southern neighbor. I am a huge fan of Kids In the Hall, Corner Gas, Strange Brew, etc… While these are older shows and movies I still have a great appreciation for Canadian humor in all entertainment mediums. I am surprised I haven’t come across a community for discussing Canadian entertainment or something thereof. As I am not as versed as many on the subject I would be hesitant to create a community myself, but would enjoy having one to participate in and find new shows and whatnot. Just something to think about. Eh?

An odd ball program that I am not sure many people can appreciate or even remember let alone enjoy would be ‘Saturday Night At The Movies - with Elwy Yost’ … it was TVO (TV Ontario public broacaster)

I grew up in norther Ontario in a small community in the 80s and we had three channels … CBC was always on, a pirated movie channel that could come on at random times and disappear at different times and TVO with all its dull programming (dull I thought at the time as a kid but now realize how much I gained from watching all of it)

Saturday Night At The Movies through osmosis introduced me to lots and lots of old classics, film noir, actors, directors and characters from the Golden Age of cinema. Yost was also an amazing host because he was so passionate about movies when he talked to everyone that came on his show. I still remember him interviewing sound guys, lighting guys, back stage hands, editors and writers and just asking them questions about what they thought about famous actors they worked with like Hepburn, Grant, Bogart and all the rest. And then they would show a classic old film.

I was bored as a kid with TV and just about every Saturday, I sat down and watched these old films thinking they were dumb … but over the years, I got to enjoy them. Now I love them like Yost did and now whenever I see anything in black and white, I think of those Saturday Night at the movies. I developed a love for old classic films and it was because of one man’s passion … what an amazing character.

Definitely great Canadian entertainment for me.

Letterkenny has already been mentioned, but be sure to check out it’s spinoff Shoresy. I actually like it even more than Letterkenny.

For something old and very weird try Lexx. It’s the story of a security guard, a love slave, a dead assassin, and a robot head who accidentally get control of a giant bug spaceship (the Lexx), which is also the most powerful weapon of destruction ever created. It’s, dark, weird, disturbing, gross, sexy, funny, and the greatest show ever made.

A Canadian TV community in general would be great. There’s some pretty amazing Canadian shows on streaming now that nobody is really talking about. Plan B on CBC Gem blew me away and I haven’t seen anyone else talking about it.

Huh, I liked Kids in the Hall but I haven’t heard of the other two. I’ll have to check them out!

You might also enjoy Red Green: There’s a red green show channel on Pluto I think.

As far as newer sketch comedy, Tallboyz and Baroness Von Sketch have done some great work the last few years.

Tpb is great too, I assume it’s part of the ellipses.

If you’re looking for movies check out Weirdsville and Fakers if you can find them. Weirdsville is honestly one of my favourite movies of you like dark comedies. I’ll try to think of some more, I used to work weird hours and watched a lot of Canadian content that got played on the movie channels at 4 am.

Chilly Beach is, not terrible if you’re into animation. Worth checking out I think.
