It’s interesting that in a free market, people tend to coalesce around two or three options… whatever the focus is. In terms of software, the free markets led to the dominance of Microsoft, Apple and Google.

When it comes to mobile OSs, most people don’t know about the Open Source alternatives, or if they have heard of them, they consider them too geeky, too difficult to adopt, or inchoate.

Open Source OSs aren’t marketed in the same way as their proprietary counterparts. And they’re not available in high street shops. Online, there’re the two Linux phones - the PinePhone and the Librem5 (which aren’t quite daily-driver ready) and the Fairphone 3 running /e/.

Quite frankly, I don’t imagine this free-market-loving government will do anything about the situation… It will once again demonstrate the power of big business over hands-off regulators.
