So I’ve been looking for a real Discord alternative for years now and it seems Spaces is the thing that’s finally going to start bringing in the functionality that exists in Discord. What I want to know is where could I follow the progress it? Not only am I very excited about it, but I’d also like to warn my friends well in advance before I nuke my Discord account.
There was a talk about it at FOSDEM 2021 if you did not already see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzUfS08lMek
Also as already mentioned just keep in eye out for the blog and read the “This Week In Matrix” posts.
MSC1772 is what you wanna follow
Thanks! Returns a git issue with a big-ass todo-list. Just what my F5 needed. E: editing to see if it federates the comment

This is very promising. And the whole featureset seems to fairly far along as well! E: editing to federate
I guess the best place to follow the progress would be on the [matrix] blog. I may be wrong though.
That’s the first i’m hearing of those spaces. And duckduckgoing it doesn’t really return a clear and susinct explanation. Could you please summarize what they are all about?
@Rain@lemmy.ml linked a video which explains the goals of it. An hour long talk explaining it all and it has a lot of potential.
I’m a bit sceptical so would suggest waiting for a year and just download a regular Element.
None of my comments have federated from sopuli, so this is a test. E: seems like we’re back in business.
You can already try it out! Use this version of Element and register an account on https://dendrite.matrix.org. That Element version is built straight from the PR adding support for Spaces to Element. It hasn’t been merged yet but you can test it out that way.
Make sure to enables spaces from the “Lab” setting.
how to use dentrite in the element?
I’m not sure what you mean? You can just register an account on a Dendrite server using any client that supports registration.
