They are usable left handed. There is no issue at all with looking down the sights. The bolt action is slightly more awkward to operate quickly, but not insurmountable.
The M1 carbine, is like the M1 Garand also semi-auto, making it equal in regard follow-up shot speed. (Actually probably functionally faster because it is more controllable).
So for a left-handed shooter, the M1 Garand is the only good one?
