Yes they do, and many of them did. However, lots of people also stayed behind for the time being. They may gradually reconsider once the unmoderated ad-filled conversation starts to get on their nerves.

Yeah, but Reddit makes pennies per user from showing them ads, so they’re still losing money.

They do have a choice though. They can just not use Reddit at all, and/or come here.
