Even Lemmy is slightly catchy and I think will grow on people over time…

What do you mean? LXDE, LXQT, XFCE are very catchy names just like XKCD, as long as you’re a Linux user. Everyone else, will probably agree that Mate, Cinnamon and Gnome are catchier, but still not something you would find in an ad camping.
Mastodon is a pretty good name, but calling the message “toots” is probably not going to do the platform any favors. It’s a great joke in many ways, but using a term like that in your official documentation is something I would have avoided.
