Brooks died today, my O’s friends. We loved the hell out of him. And we’ll miss the hell out of him.

Geoff Arnold just said: “That one’s for you, Brooks”

As Gunnar Henderson thumped a home run in his first at bat. Maybe Gunnar will be our next Mr. Hoover.

G’night, Brooks. You are the greatest hot corner in all of baseball history. We’ll always love you.

Ah just saw this myself. Never saw him play but I loved reading his book about the ‘70 series as a kid.

He was just before I was old enough to really start remembering. But, my (Reds fan) Grampaw talked of him and of course just being an O’s fan I’ve heard all his games, at least. You can still catch the radio broadcasts here:

I remember him coming on the radio broadcasts from time to time throughout the years. I don’t think he’s been on this season, but he’d show up every now and then. I’ll miss him. He was a huge part of the history of the Orioles.

I missed out on seeing him, but he became one of those guys I loved just from second-hand stories, which arguably says even more about him.

Me, too. Never at the yard when he was there, not quite old enough to remember him on the field. But a life of so many stories about Brooks, from family and friends and hearing him on the radio, etc… leaves me feeling like I lost a personal friend. Well, similar, anyways. Losing a hero is a lot like losing a friend, in a way. Out of all the Orioles, he’s the man I most wanted to have a cold one with.

I thought about Brooks so much when we first got Manny. And was crushed when they traded him, although watching Manny in the World Series gave me the opposite kind of feelings. He damn sure didn’t display The Oriole Way with the Dodgers during that World Series.

Gunnar looks really good on third, though. In my opinion he’s better at third than he is at short. And he’ll only get better and better.

This has been the best season of Orioles baseball since '83 (in my opinion). And that’s about the extremity of my personal memories of baseball.

What a year! And it ain’t over yet!

          Go O’s!
