Creating this guide as a transfer reliability starting point for this community. The current tier list was taken from the most recent New Transfer Guide from r/liverpoolfc to get us going. We can make changes over time to suit our needs.

Tiers are based on the following criteria:

  • Tier 1 (Highest Quality Sources)

  • Tier 2 (Proven to have current sources. Often times get many things right, at least directionally, and sometimes are the first to break stories)

  • Tier 3 (Average reliability)

  • Tier 4 (Indirect sources, low reliability)

  • Tier 5/Banned (Aggregators, very low reliability)

I suggest, as a general addition, list of banned sources: (from /r/LiverpoolFC as well)

The s*n, AnfieldHQ, the Daily Mail, WhoScored, Graeme Kelly, IndyKalia, MEN, Don Balon, Dean Coombes, Mootaz Chelade, DavidOCKOP, Oliver Bond, Anfield Express, Team Leaks, TalkSport, Anfield Talk, Anfield Watch, Anfield Edition, LFC Transfer Room, Watch LFC, The Athletic.

I do not know all the specific reasons of each source though, so maybe needs some discussion except for the obvious ones - but it’s good to have the obvious ones stated somewhere for e.g. newer supporters. I do trust the /r/LiverpoolFC for vetting these over time, so I don’t really have problem to blindly adopting all of them. The Athletic is usually pay-walled and apparently aggressive on copyright issues regarding summaries of their articles.

I would add KopTalk to the list, though I don’t know will anyone here would stumble to that anyways, but it has been full of made up rumours in the past, afaik still is.

Top tier feedback! I’ll update the tier list to include a banned list.

I have been linking to The Athletic articles pretty regularly, so that’s good context to have about how aggressive they can be on copyright issues. We are probably too small for them to care about this community at the moment, but thinking ahead is always good.

For that reason, I will leave the Athletic off of the list for now.
