It’s notable that a major part of the drop happened before chatgpt was even released. Lots of good explanations here already for why that might be.
My personal anecdote is that it’s almost useless in relation to modern react (ts&functional). New questions aren’t being answered and old ones were answered with react& js or even jquery.
The problem of outdated answers indeed make it quite unusable for certain type of questions. Try finding any Java question if you’re a newbie and want to use a modern tech stack, all you find are answers from 15 years ago (literally) with a thousand up votes that all no longer work.
It of course depends on the language, but a big fat warning when an answer is more than 5 years old, with an ability to filter these out by default, would be great.
