Summary
Sen. Ron Wyden warned that Elon Musk’s team, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), was granted “full access” to a U.S. Treasury payments system handling $6 trillion annually.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent approved the access, sparking concerns over national security risks and conflicts of interest due to Musk’s business ties with China.
Wyden highlighted potential threats to Social Security, Medicare, and contractor payments.
The move follows Musk’s broader efforts to overhaul government operations under President Trump’s directive for federal spending cuts.
The Treasury declined to comment.
Normally, in sane governments of the world, having the opposition raise the alarm is normal for things to be debated and discussed and potentially halted.
Great, but we’re talking about modern US politics here. For this to be news of any significance, that letter needs to be an ‘R’. That little letter changes the entire dynamic of the story— but downvote what you don’t understand. It’s cool.
If all actions and opinions by anyone other than the literal maniacs in power are completely insignificant, how do you ever learn opposing viewpoints about anything?
I don’t need to learn anything here because I pay attention to the news and what the fascists say out loud. It seems odd to me you keep focusing on the aspect of “ringing alarm bells” when they have been almost broken from being hit so hard and so long for 8 years. The entire fucking point here, is it’s ONLY the democrats ringing them. It has nothing to do with me “caring” about Wyden’s political affiliation or some shit’s misplaced belief it was some sort of jab. It the sad fucking reality of our situation and needs to be stated out loud.
You people are fucking tiresome and dense. That is all.
A moron would say this.

Amazing argument.
You started your statement with “i dont need to learn”. You receive what you are worth.
You cherry picked your words. Your words are worth nothing. Blocked.
like others, I initially did not get your point. after following the thread, I understand what you are saying and I think the point is absolutely valid - so I am glad you did not simply drop the thread. shits really, really bad but we all need to tone down the reactionary kneejerks. the responses you got come from a place of genuine terror and confusion, so it may be useful to incorporate that understanding into the public dialogue when the arguments appear to become personal or dismissive or whatever.
you are right, the GOP has absolutely capitulated to its führer in exchange for a place at the cadaver feast; consumed in the bloodlust, they aint coming back anytime soon.
so sure, accept help from the few remaining republicans that might feel some sense of patriotic/moral obligation to the country and are willing to voice it, but they seem even more neutered than the democrats right now. I expect nothing useful from them any time soon and, until some token republican resistance manages to evade crib strangulation, we are on our own.
