Cooking @lemmy.world•[QUESTION] What is the best way to learn to cook and improve?
3·3 days agoStart with something you really like to eat. You like it so much you can tolerate it if it’s only ok.
Start making that repetitively.
That’s what will become your ‘go to’ recipe.
After a few dozen times you’ll start to get some nuance in how you make it. You’ll understand the heat, timing and seasonings.
From there you start on a second recipe that may need a new technique.
So for instance , roast chicken.
Tasty, cheap and can be served a few different ways over a week.
I used the joy of cooking, though later began to like the American test kitchen books for their detailed explanations of each part of the dish and what goes wrong.
Honestly being forced to cook everything you eat really ups your skills.
Stay away from dishes that need special equipment. Deep Fried food are pretty hard to learn and expensive as a beginner. You can get most cooking equipment from a Salvation Army/goodwill to start.
I like cook books since you can write yourself notes in them as to what you tried and if it was a good idea. If you find a recipe online print it out and keep it.
Electric is certainly a challenge when coming from a gas burner. You need to be more patient with it.
It takes longer to come to heat and longer to cool down. It sounds like your pan it too hot when cooking eggs. It’s gonna take you some practice to know when the right burner point is and how long it takes your pan to heat up.
I can’t give you advice on a specific non-stick pan though. I use stainless steel but on gas. It takes 5-10 min to reach an even heat over the whole pan. Once the whole pan reaches heat just a little oil keeps eggs from sticking.
Just get the PS2 to HDMI converter and be done with it for a few more decades.

4·6 days agoCRT’s don’t ‘kinda’ break. I suspect you are seeing some kind of wire that makes up the structure of the set ans it visibly fades when it warms up.
What are the “zones?” are these like the cardio heart rate zones?

I can’t remember them. Doesn’t mean they are good or bad, just didn’t stick with me like 8 did.
This was one of my favorite games on the ps2. I think I spent nearly 130 hours on it playing a few times through.

13·10 days agoThat guy is literally the criminal element that the Republicans have been speaking out about for years. It sounds like he should be spending some time in jail before being deported. Luckily he admitted his crime in public and on the record so a case against him should go even smoother than a regular one.

12·14 days agoThis is a remote control situation. The bird would do bird things once out of a control signal. They aren’t claiming full override and programming. I could easily see strapping a camera to a pigeon and training it. Maybe even remotely monitoring it and using a pre-trained electrical pulse to change direction.
These claims are beyond that. This is possibly the equivalent of scientist cures cancer where a reported misunderstands what is actually being presented.

Technology@lemmy.world•Russia Launches First Brain-Chipped Bird Drones for Surveillance Over CitiesEnglish
119·14 days agoThis an an absolutely exceptional claim that would put the company decades beyond any tech I have seen. They are claiming remote control of a complicated animal in flight. They also claim it is without training and over distances impossible for a bird as small as a pigeon to carry radio gear.
This is not believable without any evidence.

1·14 days agoA home server with an SSD can reasonably saturate 1000MB/s. An actual home use case can be made for 10Gig.
I have relatives with multiple properties in China and they certainly own it as much as their multiple properties in the US. Owning multiple properties in both they feel quite positive about BOTH systems working as intended.
Maybe someday they will be in for a rude awakening but i have no reason to disbelieve them currently.
I thought that they were simply reclassifying anyone who owned property as rich.
I have seen that argument made in good faith.
That’s not a misinterpretation. This wasn’t a call where rent limits are set by a locations minimum wage.
This was the abolition of rent.
Which does go along with the elimination of ownership. If all housing was state owned that would eliminate the potential for price gouging and allow for the distribution of housing based on pure need. An empty space + a person = housing
Not many people are calling for the end of homeownership.
Umm this is against rent at all. As in ANY rent. So an affordable price is still against this statement.
This wasn’t “some rent is theft”
Lets translate that
“If you can not buy a house in cash, you should live with your parents or be unhoused.”

This is far too good to have been widely seen.
